The Great ‘Dog Whistle’ Debate

november 27th, 2010 Inga kommentarer

Cosmopolitan did an article a while back that i wrote about, check it out here, and i’ve noticed that it’s been quite popular.

so last month i saved my cosmo magazine so i could write about the follow-up, but i’ve put it off for so long..

so here it is!

‘im no dog whistle’ vs. ‘dog whistles do exist’

personally, i think they do exist. i think the girls ‘defending’ them, are either dog whistles themselves or don’t really understand the concept.

i’m friends with plenty of guys, i chill with them. i play their games, i drink beer, i’m sort of a tomboy at times. but this doesn’t make me a dog whistle, just a friend. if you go around with an ulterior motive, then that’s another story. one girl from Bath, U.K. said ”i sit on the  laps of my male friends and discuss sex with them,” i find that a bit weird. i really hope that those guys don’t have girlfriends because i would not be happy. i think there’s also a difference when there’s an attractive girl in the group compared to maybe not being so ‘hot’. guys will always have ulterior motives.

a lot of women think it’s harsh that we’re labelling women, but really? we’re all labelled a million times over and the ‘dog whistle’ label has made me feel like i’m not the only girl in the world feeling this way.

What the hell?

bought a cosmopolitan magazine a couple of days ago and i got a free book with it.

so now i’m reading ‘what the hell is he thinking?’ and so far, it’s alright. i don’t know if i care about half the things in it, but some interesting things have popped up.

“What does he think if I sleep with him on the first date? Why is he possessive even when he isn’t all that into me? What does it mean when he won’t call me his girlfriend? Why does he freak out when I leave my stuff at his house?

What the HELL is He Thinking?

Having spent a good part of her post-pubescent life picking apart dating dilemmas with her girlfriends over cocktails, Zoe Strimpel decided it was time to do something once and for all about the mystery that is the male mind.

So, instead of moping about in the Mars/Venus divide, Zoe did something completely crazy: she talked to actual guys, getting them to explain the tales of confusion that she had gathered from her friends. And – would you believe – they had a lot of gems to offer. So while she had their attention, she also asked them the Eighty Questions You Most Want Men to Answer.’

The female dog whistle

i was reading cosmopolitan magazine when i was at simon’s in july. completely forgot to write about this article but it’s ridiculous how true it is and how many girls like this i’ve known.

basically the article is about women who act a certain way, but much like a dog whistle (only dog’s can hear them) only women see what they’re actually doing.

i can’t really do the article any justice, but if you have the chance pick up the summer edition of cosmo magazine give it a read.

she’s the type of woman who pretends to be ‘one of the guys’ but spends much too many hours getting ready just to sit around and hang out.
she flirts with your boyfriend and friend’s boyfriend just for the attention. thankfully guys are either too stupid or too smart to realize it.
she always plays the ‘women don’t seem to like me’ card with guys.
she pretends to be something she’s not around guys.
she craves male attention. she’ll stab you in the back for it.
she always talks about sex, past sexual experiences, and how much she likes certain sexual positions and whatnot. says things like ‘oh gosh, i forgot to put underwear on today’ and ‘i always sleep naked’.

so sick of meeting girls like this. i really am.

FDW, girl’s that only other girls can hear.

Fragile; Handle with care

Girls and their needs. Boys and theirs. When a girl asks a boy a question she doesn’t always want the truth. If she asks you if she’s having a bad hair day, lie. If she asks you if she’s put on weight, say maybe a little bit, BUT I prefer it. If she asks who you’d be sleeping with if not her, lie. These things will in no way help your situation. The only thing your gunna do is hurt her. Girls don’t always need to hear the brutal truth, they are fragile. We don’t want to know if you’d rather be dancing with that skinny brunette in the corner. We don’t want to know what the guys talk about when were not present. After all you are just guys. I may have high hopes of boys but then I realize that that’s exactly what they are, boys.. Not men. So take some advice and don’t be so blunt with girls, they arnt one of your guyfriends. Treat them with more respect, that’s the least we deserve from you.
